Kennel’s that say that pedigree dogs are becoming stupid as we breed them for look and not brains
What about those Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s that bad mouth dog show people, breeders and breeding programs? I have even found breeders and so called Kennel’s that say that pedigree dogs are becoming stupid as we breed them for look and not brains. What these Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s don’t under stand is that more show, field and performance events dogs have their Canine Good Citizens awards, Family Obedience title and later obtain their Therapy Certification then the average house pet. More show, field and performance events dogs have more instinct to perform at what they were breed for than the average house pet. Yes we have breeders out there that still work their dogs to keep the dog able to do what they were breed for. Once facts that these Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s failed to look in the article by scientist in Sweden, is that some of the breeds that were tested can no longer do what the were originally bred for thanks to animal rights activist. Thank to these individuals we have laws world wide the prohibit using dogs to hunt specific animals or game. There is a flip side to how to keep that prey drive in those breeds of dogs and that’s Herding, Lure Coursing, Earth dogs, and Terrier races. These are events that people have come up with to preserve their breed behavior and mental abilities. Confirmation events must be held to prove and insure that what is beginning breed today fits the breed standard. With out Confirmation events a breeds look or appearance can and will be lost with poor breeding practices. These Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s make comments mostly because they breed for money and not to improve their on stock or dogs. A lot of these Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s won’t show or compete in field or performance events mostly because they can’t do it. Many Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s dogs do not even conform to the Breed Standard listed by many Kennel Clubs around the world. Other Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s dogs have so much dog aggression that they can’t even control them, themselves. A lot of these Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s are quick to point the finger at the show world and dogs events world but they them selves fall very short even to the things that they claim. A lot of these Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennels are at fault for losing a look, a trait or something that applies to the breed standard. Many Irresponsible breeders and Kennels have no idea on how to properly breed dogs. These Irresponsible breeders and Kennels don’t look at pedigrees or breed types, which is how you can keep constancy in a breed. Lots of Responsible breeders and Kennels spend a lot of time look at pedigrees or dogs for breed type and use this idea, or method to can keep constancy in their breeding program. As for Responsible breeders and Kennel’s will spend money to get their dogs involved in different dog events and become active in the dog world. Many Responsible breeders and Kennel’s will even become big ambassadors to the breed. Many Responsible breeders and Kennel’s will also help fight for your dog rights. Less then half of the Irresponsible breeders and so called Kennel’s out there will not do anything dogs in America, and do not have any idea about Breed specific legislation or mandatory spay/neuter bills and laws that are begin promoted and pasted across America. So as for these scientists in Sweden to write this article, that lack evidence and proof to support their claim that pedigree dogs are becoming stupid as we breed them for look and not brains. Maybe if they can give better facts and less opinion I could understand their point of view on this topic. I’m very interested on what you have to say.

I think you have a lot of nerve with what you say. You are contradicting and very repetative, people have a right to their own opinion. I’ve been breeding English Bulldogs for over 30 years and they have similar background histories, I think you should just stick with listing dog shows on your blog! Being a breeder myself you DO NOT bad mouth other breeders PERIOD!!!

Please remember that it states on my site these are my ideas, opinions and views. The fact of the matter is that we as breeders need to discuss these issues. PETA is working hard to get their way. If we breeders don’t help resolve the problems with in the dog world our selves the government will do it for us. I won’t be till that day when we all will have no dogs to breed. I work hard with many breed Clubs to fight new and current legislation. I write letters and send emails to City Councils, Mayors, Governors, Senators and Congressmen in ever state and at a national level. How many so called breeders do you know that are active in the fight against new and current legislation. Now the question for you is, have I actually directly bad mouth any breeder or kennel in any of my statements on my blog or site? I have never directly bad mouth any breeders or kennels and I never will. If you took offense to any thing that I have mentioned in my blog or site, I’m sorry. A Guilty mind leads to guilty heart. A Guilty heart leads to a Guilty mind. As for others the truth can and will hurt from time to time.

You say your trying to protect the breed and your this some kind of action hero in your neighborhood, if you don’t enjoy Staffords then you should probably look into another breed. WHY I SAY THIS IS it’s not hard to go to Stafford Mall and figure out who your talking about, just so me and you are clear i won’t say the kennels name but it’s out of Georgia. I looked on your page at your links and people you have linked and they say they are trying to stay true to the breed. AGAIN I WON’T MENTION NAMES. Well isn’t it true to the breed it should have a little spunk (game), showing, fly ball, and they were orignally bred for fighting but those gentics are 95% if not all bred out of the staffys by now. So if your trying to stay true to the breed you do want a game dog and that does not mean fighting. You need to catch up on your research my friend. This is proven facts researched by scientist not some guy who calls himself a “kennel”. I know mostly everyone in the Staffy world and it’s not hard to figure out who or what kennel your talking about. If you want to take credit for someone else’s page and act like you have heard stories from the neighborhood or something… sorry son that’s not how we do things in the Staffy World. I too am an AKC judge so what’s that got to do with the price of tea in China, it sounds to me like you have a LOT of free time and did I mention that this is a friend of mine you are speaking of? Don’t write about something that you have no clue on what you are talking about and at the end you say you would love for him to explain more you might want to read his page again because he does. I see your having a litter coming up, so I see your giving out free puppies. Why would you pay to spay or neuter a dog at 8 weeks? If you have so much knowledge about this breed you would know that it is not even healthy to go under anesthesia at that age. So your the guy in the neighborhood who passes out free Staffys, pays for neutering, and doesn’t make a penny off of a dog in his life. WOW VERY IMPRESSIVE!

Let me first say that I’m not taking about just one breeder or kennel. I have found many breeders and kennels who share that believe or theory. I don’t know of the breeder or kennel that you know but if they believe this theory they are wrong for believing in it. I gave the scientist some credit for their research but the fact is they claim that dogs getting stupid. Now with Staffies since it is illegal to fight dogs in most of the world. Losing dog aggression and fight drive will not make staffies stupid but it will be for the better of the breed. There are so many things that we can do with staffies like be part of TDI, Rescue, CGC, Agility, Flyball, in Obedience and in Earth dog competitions. Now by having a dog involved in these types of thing make them stupid? No, I do not know of any breeders who only breed for a specific look. They breed for a all around balanced dog.

Yes, we are having a litter, My Bitch has had 2 false pregnancies back to back, My Vet recommends that I breed her and that’s the only reason for this breeding and if you notice the person who I co-owner her with has set all of it up. The Breeder gets 2 pups and the co-owners of both dogs each get one and if their or more I have2 great show homes near me. I have never given dogs to homes that won’t co-own with me.
My vet said he can spay or neuter at 5 months old. I have articles from the ASPCA, The Humane Society and PETA claiming that Pets can be safely spayed or neutered as early as 8 weeks of age. But that vets prefer to wait until 3 months at which time the puppy or kitten should have already had a series of vaccines. Vets do include one Distemper combination booster shot and a Rabies vaccine at that age too, if needed. The other side claims that historically, there has been concern about stunted growth, obesity, urinary incontinence, behavioral changes, and increased risk under anesthesia. However, studies have shown that there is no substantial difference in criteria between those done at early-age (8-14 weeks), or those done at sexual maturity (6 months).
So for you to say to me, ”If you have so much knowledge about this breed you would know that it is not even healthy to go under anesthesia at that age.”
Is not fully a true statement according to vets across the world!
